It’s been almost a year since I joined the YUI team and today I welcome my first YUI video. Last week I gave a presentation about the YUI RTE and it’s now available online in the YUI Theater. You can find all of the presentation slides here on my site.
Let me know what you think of my rookie debut on video
Here are a few screenshots of my Complex Example rendering on an iPhone.
My hosting provider is upgrading PHP on my server to 5.x tonight, hopefully all of my examples and site will continue to function.
If you notice any of my examples failing, please feel free to email me and let me know, there are 159 examples, so I’ll have a hard time checking them all
Thanks
Dav

I have been working on some more AIR apps with YUI and figured I would share them here. The first one is a port of my YUI CSS GridBuilder. The addition to this little app is the ability to save the layout to a file.
The second app, is an offline doc browser for the YUI docs.
Hope you enjoy them
With the release of Adobe AIR 1.0 today, I figured I should package a sample AIR app using the latest YUI release. And what better example of showing YUI 2.5.0 in all it’s glory than to convert my Complex Application example.
This example contains a patched version of the YUI Editor that makes the Editor render inside of AIR. The Editor contained in this app is not a fully functional version of the Editor Control (I am still working on that).
You can download and install the AIR app from here.
So you can see what I have done, I have included the source for the AIR app here.
Using YAHOO.util.Get and Pipes together can open up some pretty powerful doors..
If you don’t know what Pipes is, here is a snippet from their homepage:
Pipes is a powerful composition tool to aggregate, manipulate, and mashup content from around the web.
If you don’t know what YAHOO.util.Get is, here is a snippet from it’s homepage:
The Get Utility provides a mechanism for attaching script and css resources — including cross-domain resources — to the DOM after the page has loaded.
Basically Pipes allows us to take data from different sources, mash them up and spit them out as a combined data stream. One of the best parts of this, is that you can have Pipes render your data in JSON format. And we all know that JSON is a really nice way to get data into a webpage.. However, if we combine this awesome tool with the new Get Utility included in the latest YUI release, we get do some kewl stuff
I have whipped up a couple of simple examples using 2 different pipes and a couple of YUI controls..
The first example uses Get and this Pipe. The pipe grabs an RSS feed from Yahoo! Weather and splits up the HTML source in the description leaving us with a nice JSON array.
Doing a little JS/CSS mojo, we get something like this.
In the second example, I have used this pipe. This pipe will grab a Yahoo! news feed and convert it to a JSON object that we can parse. I built this example to populate a TabView Control with the news data without a server side proxy..
Now these are some really simple examples that I built in about a half an hour, but I hope you can see the potential here for some really kewl projects..
Happy Hacking..
It seems that my CSS Grid Builder has hit the news again. Dion Almaer over at Ajaxian has posted an article linking to an article that Jeremy Zawodny did about my Grid Builder
Who would have thought that it’s still getting all this love when I wrote it back in Nov of 2006.
People have been asking for this example for quite some time now, so I figured I would mash one up.

I don’t have aspell or pspell on my server, so this is a static example of how to do spell checking with the Editor.
Currently the only 2 misspellings supported by this checker is Thsi and tset.
You will need to provide the backend spell check server (of your choice) and modify this code in the proper places (commented).
Happy Coding!
I just updated my YUI Rich Text Editor plugin for the 2.4.0 release. I have fixed a couple of issues and checked to make sure the plugin works on WordPress 2.3x as well as the 2.2x version.
I also changed out the comments Editor with the new SimpleEditor Control. It will help with those concerned about page weight.
Enjoy
